Philomath Hills and Wheat Fields, 37 miles

Day 2 of my commitment to ride every day. Beautiful day, though a bit hotter than I like. But sweaty climbs are rewarded by cooling descents.

Rode past so many wheat fields! Just a couple years ago, the only thing anyone grew around here was grass seed. The housing crash killed grass seed prices, while grain shortages made wheat very profitable. A silver lining for Willamette Valley farmers.

That’s Mary’s Peak in the background. Our homestead is on the foothills just to the left of the saddle mountain.
